Introduction

The Five Dollar Bill Helper is an application available on Android, iOS, and web browsers (the “Application”) for users to create, track, and evaluate their income and budget. The Five Dollar Bill Helper is operated by Five Dollar Bill Helper, LLC, a company headquartered in the State of North Carolina in the United States (“we,” “us,” “our,” and “Five Dollar Bill Helper”).

 

What Information is Collected and How

The information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with Five Dollar Bill Helper, your subscription settings, and the products and features you use. All forms of data and information we collect from you is referred to as “Personal Information.” However, the Personal Information we collect broadly falls into the following categories:

Information you provide to us: You may provide certain Personal Information to us when you sign up for a subscription, use our Services, or otherwise communicate with us. This information may include:

  • Real name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Physical and/or mailing address
  • Account login credentials (i.e., username and password)
  • Accreditations (e.g., degrees, certificates, education level, etc.)
  • Education information
  • Paycheck information

Information we collect automatically: When you use our Services, we may automatically receive certain information about your usage. We do not use cookies on our Application.

Information we collect from other sources: We may obtain information about you from third-party service providers like Google Analytics, Plaid, and Stripe. This information may include:

  • IP address
  • Relative geographic location
  • Browser
  • Operating system
  • Referral data (the URL from which you arrived on our Application)
  • Electronic fund transfer service credentials
  • Financial transaction history

How Information is Used

We may use the Personal Information we collect or receive through the Service (alone or in combination with other data we source) for the purposes identified below:

  • To facilitate account creation and administration.
  • To bill and collect money owed to us in accordance with your subscription. 
  • To communicate with you about your account and provide customer support.
  • To provide, support, and improve our Services. For example, this may include sharing your information with third parties in order to support our Service or to make certain features of our Service available to you. 
  • To conduct analytics and research on who is using our Services and what they are doing.
  • To improve our advertising and marketing to allow for a more customized experience.
  • To meet legal requirements, including complying with court orders, valid discovery requests, valid subpoenas, and other appropriate legal mechanisms.

Data Security and Retention

We seek to protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access, use and disclosure using appropriate physical, technical, organizational, and administrative security measures based on the type of Personal Information and how we are processing that data. You should also help protect your data by appropriately selecting and protecting your password and/or other sign-on mechanism, limiting access to your computer or device and browser, and signing off after you have finished accessing your account. Although we work to protect the security of your account and other data that we hold in our records, please be aware that no method of transmitting data over the internet or storing data is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the complete security of any data you share with us, and except as expressly required by law, we are not responsible for the theft, destruction, loss, or inadvertent disclosure of your information or content.

We will use your information for the reasons detailed in this Privacy Policy in order to deliver our Services to you. If you wish to discontinue your subscription, you can close your account with us at any time. We retain a record of your account information and only use your account information as needed, for example, to comply with a valid legal request or resolve a dispute, or to meet any legal requirements or obligations. We may also continue to include your data as part of ongoing data and usage analysis.

Any information collected by third-party service providers is not retained or stored by us. For more information on any of our third-party service providers’ data storage policies, please visit their respective websites.

Third Party Service Providers

Sometimes, we share your information with third-party service providers working on our behalf. For example, companies we’ve hired to help us support our Service, assist in protecting and securing our systems, and other business-related functions. Additionally, our website and Application may contain links to third party websites to which we have no affiliation. Except as otherwise discussed in this Privacy Policy, this document only addresses the use and disclosure of information we collect from you. Other sites accessible through our Application via links or service partnerships have their own privacy policies and data collection, use, and disclosure practices. Please consult each site’s privacy policy. We are not responsible for the policies or practices of third parties. 

Other companies may place advertising on our Application and may collect information about you when you view or click on their advertising through the use of cookies. We cannot control this collection of information. You should contact these advertisers directly if you have any questions about their use of the information that they collect.

Please note that we may disclose your Personal Information to third parties in a good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) take action regarding suspected illegal activities; (b) enforce or apply our Terms and Conditions of Service and Privacy Policy; (c) comply with legal process, such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order; or (d) protect our rights, reputation, and property, or that of our users, affiliates, or the public. We are not required to question or contest the validity of any search warrant, subpoena or other similar governmental request that we receive.

Stripe.

We use Stripe to process all payments on our Application. When Stripe processes your payment, they will send us a confirmation with transaction details so we can record your order and provide access to the Services you receive with your subscription. We do not collect information about or have access to the specific payment or funding sources or any other financial account details associated with your Stripe account.


Plaid.

We use Plaid to link your financial accounts and information to the App for tracking transactions. All financial information will be processed and stored by Plaid. We do not collect information about or have access to your financial account details. 

Advertising Partners. 

We may partner with third-party advertising networks, exchanges, and social media platforms to display advertising on our Application, or to manage and serve our advertising on other sites, and we may share your Personal Information with them for this purpose. We do not use cookies or other similar tracking technologies, but our third-party service providers may use them to gather information about your activities on our Application in order to provide you with targeted advertising based on your browsing activities and interests.

State-Specific Privacy Rights.

California.

If you are a California resident, you have the rights outlined in this section. Please see the “Exercising Your Rights” section below for instructions regarding how to exercise these rights. If there are any conflicts between this section and any other provision of this Policy and you are a California resident, the portion that is more protective of Personal Information shall control to the extent of such conflict. If you have any questions about this section or whether any of the following applies to you, please contact us.

  • Access: You have the right to request certain information about our collection and use of your Personal Information over the past 12 months. If requested, we will provide you with the following information:
    • The categories of Personal Information we have collected about you;
    • The categories of sources from which that Personal Information was collected;
    • The business or commercial purpose for collecting or sharing your Personal Information;
    • The categories of third parties with whom we have shared your Personal Information; and
    • The specific pieces of Personal Information we have collected about you.
  • Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete the Personal Information that we have collected from you. Under the CCPA, the right is subject to certain exceptions: for example, we may need to retain your Personal Information to provide you with the Services or complete a transaction or other action you have requested, or to comply with our legal obligations. If your deletion request is subject to one of these exceptions, we may deny your deletion request.
  • Exercising Your Rights: 
    • To exercise the rights described above, you must send us a request that (1) provides sufficient information to allow us to verify that you are the person about whom we have collected Personal Information, and (2) describes your request in sufficient detail to allow us to understand, evaluate and respond to it. Each request that meets both of these criteria will be considered a “Valid Request.” We may not respond to requests that do not meet these criteria. We will only use Personal Information provided in a Valid Request to verify you and complete your request. You do not need an account to submit a Valid Request.
    • We will work to respond to your Valid Request within 45 days of receipt. We will not charge you a fee for making a Valid Request unless your Valid Request(s) is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we determine that your Valid Request warrants a fee, we will notify you of the fee and explain that decision before completing your request.

    • You may also authorize an agent (an “Authorized Agent”) to exercise your rights on your behalf. To do this, you must provide your Authorized Agent with written permission to do so, and we may request a copy of this written permission from your Authorized Agent when they make a request to exercise your rights on your behalf.
  • Non-Discrimination Policy: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights under the CCPA. We will not deny you our goods or services, charge you different prices or rates, or provide you a lower quality of goods and services if you exercise your rights under the CCPA. However, we may offer different tiers of our Services as allowed by applicable data privacy laws (including the CCPA) with varying prices, rates, or levels of quality of the goods or services you receive related to the value of Personal Information that we receive from you.

Nevada.

If you are a resident of Nevada, you have the right to opt out of the sale of certain Personal Information to third parties who intend to license or sell that Personal Information. Please note that we do not currently sell your Personal Information as sales are defined in Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 603A. You can indicate your preferences with respect to this right by contacting us at [email protected] with the subject line “Nevada Do Not Sell Request” and providing us with your name and the email address associated with your account.

General Provisions

International Users.

If you are located outside of the United States, please note that the Service is located on computer servers in the United States. Therefore, your information may be processed and stored in the United States. As a result, United States federal and state governments, courts, or law enforcement or regulatory agencies may be able to obtain disclosure of your information through laws applicable in the United States. Your use of the Service or your submission of any Personal Information to us will constitute your consent to the transfer of your Personal Information outside of your home country, including the United States, which may provide for different data protection rules than in your country.

Children’s Privacy.

The Service is not directed toward children under 13 years of age nor do we knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 13 years of age, you are not permitted to submit any Personal Information to us. Users under 18 years of age are required to obtain the consent of a parent or guardian prior to using the Application. 

Changes to the Privacy Policy.

From time to time, we’ll update this Policy in accordance with the process and rules in our Terms of Service. We will alert you to changes by placing a notice on the Application, by sending you an email, and/or by some other means. Please note that if you haven’t provided us with your correct email address, those legal notices will still govern your use of the Services, and you are still responsible for reading and understanding them. If you use the Services after any changes to the Policy have been posted, that means you agree to all of the changes. Use of information we collect is subject to the Policy in effect at the time such information is collected.
